Climatest Symor® ESD dry cabinets, also called ESD dry storage cabinets, is an enclosure with electronic humidity control that automatically maintains a stable relative humidity (RH) value, the ESD dry cabinets come in different sizes and shapes, it can maintain <5%RH low humidity environment reliably, with precise RH control, but do require a constant power supply.
How do ESD dry cabinets influence the SMT production?
MSL components, like IC, BGA, PCB, are very sensitive to moisture, these components have strict requirements for the storage environment, unlike the civilian moisture-proof dry boxes, the ESD dry cabinets can reach a very low humidity value, the dehumidifying and recovering speed is super fast, the whole cabinets are ESD safe.
During reflow process, trace moisture penetrate into the IC packages, the moisture pressure rises due to heating, the absorbed moisture expand quickly inside, this result in invisible damages, like wiring failure, popcorn and micro-cracking, even cracking to the surface, these defects are not easy to be seen in the early stage, however, these invisible, potential problems enter into the market, then faculty products return and complains follow.
